Title: Snyder Avenue Bridge Opening Over Carson City Freeway
The Snyder Avenue
overpass is scheduled to open by Friday afternoon over the southern portion of
the Carson City Freeway as work progresses on the Nevada Department of
Transportation project to complete the freeway.
2013, Snyder Avenue had been closed between East Roland Street and Dat So la
Lee Way, with a detour in place, as the overpass was constructed to take the
road over the southern end of the Carson City Freeway. The overpass
construction is part of phase 2B-2 of NDOT's Carson City Freeway project. This
current phase of the project placed down 15,000-plus tons of base and paving
and installed 680,000 pounds of reinforcing steel as part of the new Snyder
Avenue overpass and work on other residential streets near the future freeway.
The project also included roadway grading and extensive utility and storm
water drainage work for what will eventually be the southern and final leg of
the Carson City Freeway bypass.
The next phase of construction, which will pave
and open the freeway to traffic between Fairview Drive and the Spooner/U.S. 50
junction in south Carson City, is scheduled to begin in the first half of
2015. The freeway is projected to open to traffic between Fairview Drive and
the U.S. 50/Spooner Junction when that final phase of construction completes
in approximately 2017.
