Title: Elko Urban Improvement Project Gears Up With Partnering Meetings
A Nevada Department of Transportation project to improve Idaho Street and Mountain City and Lamoille highways is gearing up with partnering meetings this Wednesday.
Project construction, scheduled to start in early March, will include milling and repaving the road surface in the following areas:
∙ State Route 225, Mountain City Highway, from Idaho Street to Sundance Drive
∙ State Route 227, Lamoille Highway, from Idaho Street to State Route 228
∙ State Route 535, Idaho Street, from Interstate 80 at the 298 exit to State Route 227/Fifth Street
Sidewalks, curb and gutters will also be reconstructed at select locations, and a raised median island will be installed on Mountain City Highway. The majority of project construction in downtown Elko will consist of overnight single lane closures, with day and nighttime closures on Lamoille Highway. The approximately $20 million project, constructed by contractor Road and Highway Builders, is expected to complete in 2015.
"These are important enhancements to some of the Elko area's most vital roads," NDOT Assistant District Engineer Michael Murphy explained. "We're dedicated to building a project that will make traveling through downtown Elko not just easier and safer for cars, bicycles and pedestrians, but more scenic with improved landscaping. We're working with the local businesses and community to reduce the impact of construction, and these partnering meetings are an example of that."
The partnering meeting will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26 in the Elko City Hall meeting rooms located at 1751 College Avenue, with subsequent meetings held each week throughout the project. With Road and Highway Builders' project team goal of establishing ongoing communication with those impacted by the project, area business representatives and the public are invited to attend to obtain project schedule information. NDOT held two public informational meetings in prior years to provide project information and gather public input.
