Title: I-80 Lane Closures on May 16 Near Pilot Peak- Northeastern Nevada

Story Text:

Lanes on Interstate 80 approximately six miles west of Pilot Peak interchange are scheduled to be narrowed on Thursday, May 16 as part of a road improvement project, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has announced.

Motorists traveling in the westbound direction of I-80 will find one travel lane which will be narrowed to allow for crane operations to set bridge girders as part of bridge improvements. Oversize vehicles will be subject to delays of up to three hours.

The work is part of finishing work on a project begun in May 2012 to repave and improve

I-80 from east of the Oasis interchange to west of Pilot Peak using cold in-place recycling (recycling/incorporating old pavement as part of new road surface), including retrofitting two bridges and installation of a safety crossing to help reduce vehicle-wildlife collisions.

Construction of the approximately $31 million in interstate improvements by contractor Fisher Industries is scheduled to be completed by late summer.

Motorists are advised to drive at posted construction speed limits, or slower as necessary for conditions. Updated Nevada road conditions and construction information are available by dialing 511 before driving. NDOT also offers safe work zone driving tips on-line at www.nevadadot.com/safety.
