Title: I-15 Lanes Reduced Next Few Weeks For Detector Loop Work

Story Text:

LAS VEGAS - Due to temperatures expected to be below freezing tonight, the Nevada Department of Transportation is pushing back its I-15 detector loop project. Work will begin at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, as opposed to tonight because of safety concerns associated with the water required for loop detector installation freezing on the roadway. Water is used to flush out debris in the installation areas. An updated news release is below.

Update: NDOT will implement nightly traffic restrictions on I-15 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the next few weeks in order to cut detector loops, which help with recording traffic flow. The pavement will be cut, traffic-recording loops (wires) installed and the pavement resealed. (Once a year, seven days worth of information on hourly volume counts are retrieved from traffic recorders and this information is used to assist in repairing, maintaining and building roads).

This week's nightly work will run from 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10 to 5 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13. All work will be completed at night between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Three left lanes will be closed, leaving two travel lanes open. When the work in the left lanes is done, they will reopen and the two right lanes will close. Starting Tuesday night, lanes will be reduced on I-15 northbound from just north of the Blue Diamond Interchange. On Wednesday night, there will be lane closures, in the same configuration, south of Russell Road. The process repeats on Thursday night, with closures north of Tropicana. On Sunday night, there will be closures north of Spring Mountain Road. Please use caution, slow down and heed traffic control devices. Expect delays or consider using an alternate route. This week's schedule is below.
