Title: Proposed Improvements to Elko-Area Roads Discussed in Nov. 9 Public Meeting

Story Text:

A Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) Nov. 9 public meeting will provide detailed information on proposed road improvements to Idaho Street and Mountain City and Lamoille Highways.

The proposed improvements include milling and repaving the road surface in the following areas:

∙  State Route 225, Mountain City Highway, from Idaho Street to Sundance Drive

∙  State Route 227, Lamoille Highway, from Idaho Street to State Route 228

∙  State Route 535, West Idaho Street, from Interstate 80 to State Route 225

Sidewalks and curb and gutters will also be reconstructed at select locations on the roads, and a proposed raised median island will be installed on Mountain City Highway. The improvements are scheduled to be constructed beginning next spring.

“These are important enhancements to some of the Elko area’s most vital roads,” NDOT project coordinator Steve Bird explained. “During these meetings, we are looking for feedback from the public about these proposed improvements, and how to reduce impacts so construction can be made as easy as possible for commuters and businesses.”

The Public Information Meeting will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9 in the City of Elko Council Chambers located at 1751 College Avenue. The public is invited to attend the open-format meeting at any time during the meeting to discuss the project and provide comments. Project questions can be asked and comments can also be made before Nov. 28 on-line at www.nevadadot.com, by e-mail at info@dot.state.nv.us or by mail to NDOT Project Coordinator Steve Bird, 1263 South Stewart Street, Carson City, NV., 89712. Meeting accommodations for the disabled or those with limited English proficiency can be made by contacting (775) 888-7171.
