Title: Northbound I-15 Tropicana Exit in Las Vegas to Move Nov. 21

Story Text:

Beginning Monday morning, November 21st, drivers going northbound on I-15 wishing to exit Tropicana Ave. will have to use the newly configured Russell Rd. exit ramp. Additionally, drivers will have to exit at the Russell Rd. ramp about a quarter mile sooner than where the current off-ramp is located.

Once exiting on the ramp drivers wishing to exit Russell Rd. will stay in the right lanes to exit and drivers wishing to exit Tropicana Ave. will have to stay left and exit after driving past the Russell Rd. bridge. (See graphic on the left).

This will also be the exit for drivers wishing to exit Frank Sinatra Dr.

This configuration is one of the first steps to opening up the access roads that are a key element to the I-15 South Design Build project.

An access road is a specialized one-way roadway very similar in appearance to a frontage road. It runs along a freeway or arterial and shifts ramp traffic that would otherwise be a part of the main freeway or arterial traffic outwards so that merging and weaving does not take place on the main lanes making travel safer.

One example of an access road already exists on the U.S. 95 north between the Rancho Rd. and Decatur Blvd. exits or U.S. 95 south between Decatur Blvd. and Valley View Blvd.

The I-15 South Design Build Project stretches from Tropicana Ave., to just south of the Silverado Ranch Blvd. The project includes widening the freeway, the addition of access roads, redesigned interchanges, new bridge sections, new landscaping, retaining walls and sound walls.  The project is on schedule for completion in the summer of 2012.
